A Ship Route Planning Method under the Sailing Time Constraint

This paper realizes the simultaneous optimization of a vessel’s course and speed for whole voyage within estimated time arrival (ETA), which can ensure is safe energy-saving through proper planning route speed. Firstly, dynamic sea area model with meteorological oceanographic data sets established to delineate navigable prohibited areas; secondly, some are extracted from records previous voyages, train two artificial neural network models predict fuel consumption rate revolutions per minute (RPM), keys optimization. After that, configuration introduced process, ship’s proposed. Then, based on customized version A* algorithm, solved in simulation. Two simulations ship crossing North Pacific show that proposed methods make navigation decisions advance voyage’s safety, compared naive route, optimized program reduce while retaining an approximately constant destination adapting variations oceanic conditions.
